The winter in our city has been pretty cold and sometimes wet, well, often times wet from the rain. On one of those cold, wet days my husband and I went to visit a local couple to study the Word and fellowship with them. We entered their apartment and because there is no central heating in this part of the country, we continued to feel the cold bite from outside. I saw a nice warm space heater conveniently placed next to the sofa and so I sat there while my husband and friend were discussing something. I couldn’t warm up quick enough so I decided to stand in front of the heater instead of just sitting nearby it. Once I stood in front of the space heater I felt warmth returning and also felt much more comfortable. My husband often tells me to just layer more clothing on myself so that I won’t get so cold, but after five layers of long sleeved shirts and a sweater, and a layer of long underwear under my jeans I felt that if I had put on anymore clothes I wouldn’t be able to move. On this particular day though, I was glad that I had on so many layers. Having felt warmer I sat back down on the sofa and realized that the back of my calf was a little painful. I looked to see what was the problem. I discovered that I had been standing too close to the space heater and because of my layers of clothing couldn’t feel that I was burning my pants. I then began to smell a strange smell too, my pants were cooked and in that area the color had changed from blue to a turquoise color. My husband and friends saw how I was observing the back of my leg and asked me what was wrong. I told them that I was making sure I had not hurt my skin and further explained to them why there was a strange smell in the room. We realized that my pants were actually touching the space heater, not that I was standing too close. I was really embarrassed, especially after my local friend told me that you couldn’t tell that in that one spot the color of my pants had changed, when in fact it was really obvious. Well.. I have now cooked my pants, while still in them. And.. this is only one story of my numerous embarrassing adventures that seem to always take place right in front of our local friends. Keeps me humble for sure! The good thing is that these pants were already reaching their expiration date, I had already broken one of the belt loops weeks earlier trying to keep my pants pulled up, and no not because I busted them from weight gain, quite the opposite actually! My husband says I now have a new pair of work pants.. but I don’t really do that kind of work, only he does. Oh well.. we return back to the States this fall, I will go in for a new pair of pants soon. I love how Father is faithful even in looking out for our clothes, He is so good!
The end of My Rainbow does not surprise with a literal pot of gold, but rather identifies my life's purpose, glorifying Christ, as my reward. My pilgrimage to its’ end is ongoing and truly non-existent as eternity lives on in the hearts of men. Still the pursuit of such a life filled with the unpredictable and loving hand of God sweetens my longing.
